I’ve been training with Sheldon at the OAC for more than two years now and in that time have become physically stronger, lost a couple of dress sizes and, in general, feel great. What makes Sheldon an excellent personal trainer is his innate desire to help his clients. He uses his knowledge about fitness and strength training to not only train clients, but to teach us about best practices. Sheldon sets the bar high, but not unreasonably so. And for all of that I’m successful at the gym. Thank you!

I signed up with Sheldon as a private trainer in the fall of 2014. I was 55, overweight, out of shape, had severe back problems, and did not have much motivation, with most of my energy being devoted to my career and my family. I have now been training one-on-one with Sheldon for close to a year and have lost weight, got rid of the back problems, and just feel much better all-around. Besides the practical results, what I appreciate most about Sheldon is how he is able to keep me motivated and actually makes me look forward to my private training sessions, knowing that I will do better every time.

Many people are under the impression that the main reason to engage a personal trainer is to look great on the beach or to excel in sports. But, my experiences with Sheldon Nimijean have demonstrated to me the important contribution that a highly qualified personal trainer can make to those seeking to recover their health, and to prevent future ill health and injury.

As a brief background note, I am a 65 year old male. Recently I suffered a bout of cancer, and as a result of intensive treatment, both of my legs snapped. I was hospitalized for over six months, followed by a brief tenure in rehabilitation physiotherapy.

I was weak, exhausted and confined to a wheelchair during most of that time. The prognosis was that I may never walk again; and certainly would have a lifetime of restricted and limited physical activity.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Having nowhere else to turn, I decided to engage Sheldon as my personal trainer. After initial consultations with my rehab physiotherapist, Sheldon custom designed a training program for me consisting largely of 2 hour long sessions per week.

What have been the results to date ?  I am now walking – completely unaided. (I had to completely re-learn how to walk – much like a two year old). And I am beginning to re-learn how to run !  Last week, I played golf (walking – no cart), outdoor tennis, and went on a brief hike in the woods. All of which quite frankly had been unimaginable six months ago. And I can say unequivocally that I never would have had this success without the patient expert guidance of Sheldon Nimijean.

What are some of the things that make Sheldon’s instruction so effective ?

1. Sheldon gets it ! He understands that for many of us, exercise/physical training are not an end in itself – but rather, a means to enhanced quality of life. In that regard my quality of life has soared.

2. Sheldon is extremely knowledgeable. He custom designed a program directly related to my needs, and updated it on an ongoing basis as the training proceeded and milestones were met. This was a comprehensive program that addresses all relevant therapeutic dimensions, including:

  • Posture
  • Breathing
  • Movement screening
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle inflexibility
  • Joint mobility
  • Faulty movement patterns

3. Sheldon is a consummate professional. He is personable, but gently demanding. He has a gentle sense of humour, yet is totally serious once the exercises begin. He is meticulous – with attention to detail. He watches like a hawk – every aspect of every exercise. He is punctual – and every session is totally filled from start to finish.

4. He is highly personable – and highly responsive to your perceived needs, your questions and your concerns.

I recommend Sheldon without reservation as one who has added life to my years – and years to my life as well.
